SUMMARY:Empathic Communication for Effective Screening and Response in Primary Care
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is the live-skills version of PHLC’s e-module on empathic screening and response. This skills webinar is designed for all staff who conduct screening\, respond to screening results\, or support implementation of screening workflows within EPT practices. Research consistently shows that empathic communication during screening and response is a key driver of patient disclosure\, engagement\, and treatment uptake. Screening tools alone do not improve outcomes; how clinicians and staff ask questions\, respond to answers\, and create psychological safety strongly influences whether patients share sensitive information and accept care. This session focuses on practical\, evidence-based empathic communication techniques that support effective screening and response\, including affirming patient autonomy\, using reflective listening\, reducing stigma in clinical conversations\, and responding skillfully to hesitation or ambivalence. Participants will practice brief communication strategies that improve screening accuracy\, strengthen patient trust\, and increase the likelihood that screening leads to appropriate follow-up\, referral\, and improved health outcomes. Live practice is a core component of this series of workshops\, so participants are encouraged to come with their “practice hats” on– camera if possible\, and ability to participate in break-out rooms. \nSpeakers \nElizabeth Morrison\, PhD\, LCSW\, MAC – CEO\, EM Consulting \nElizabeth Horevitz\, PhD\, LCSW- Principal Consultant\, EM Consulting \nRegister Here\n  \nThis course meets the qualifications for 1.0 contact hour of continuing education credit for nurses as required by the California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider #18090. You must attend the full session in order to qualify for contact hours. SUMMARY:It Takes a Village: Partnering to Improve Colorectal Cancer Screenings and COL Performance
DESCRIPTION:Early detection of colorectal cancer is key to prevention and better outcomes. Many practices face low colorectal cancer screening compliance\, while 1 in 5 diagnoses now occurs in individuals under age 55\, making it the leading cause of cancer-related death among young adults. This webinar shares key learnings and implementation insights from a six session Colorectal Cancer Screening (COL) Data Exchange Design Studio led by Connecting for Better Health (C4BH) and the Population Health Learning Center (PHLC) and funded by Covered California. This Design Studio brought together six provider practices\, four managed care plans\, and Exact Sciences—a diagnostics organization and owner of the Cologuard product—to identify opportunities to increase compliance\, strengthen patient and provider education\, and enhance data-sharing capabilities. The session is designed for providers\, health plans\, community based organizations\, health IT partners\, and quality improvement teams interested in improving performance on the COL measure. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nCommon challenges impacting COL performance\, including patient outreach and engagement\, data accessibility\, and provider communication.\nPractical recommendations for outreach strategies to more consistently distribute and collect COL tests for improved measure compliance\nHow to improve workflows from Design Studio current-state and future-state workflow designs\, use cases\, and system flow diagrams\nHow improved data exchange can support practices\, health plans\, and CBOs in successfully closing COL gaps and achieving quality measure goals\n\nRegistration Link
