Responding to Positive SUD Screens in Primary Care: SBIRT-Aligned Strategies, Motivational Interviewing, and Readiness for Change
March 31 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
This workshop supports EPT practices in responding effectively when a substance use disorder (SUD) screen is positive. Using an SBIRT-aligned (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) framework, participants will review the stages of change, practice core motivational interviewing skills, and explore key drivers of behavior change in health care settings. The session emphasizes time-limited, empathic, patient-centered conversations that reduce resistance, elicit change talk, and support patient autonomy and readiness for next steps in alignment with EPT SUD deliverables, including brief intervention, follow-up, or referral.
