Screening for Addictive Disorders in Primary Care: Understanding Addiction, Treatment Pathways, and Bias

March 12 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

This workshop supports EPT practices in building a strong foundation for screening for substance use disorders (SUD) in primary care. Participants will develop a shared understanding of addictive disorders and recovery, review the current treatment landscape, and examine evidence-based approaches to population-based identification and response. The session focuses on recognizing and mitigating stigma and implicit bias among health care workers—factors that can unintentionally reduce patient disclosure and engagement—and introduces trauma-informed, patient-centered, empathic communication principles that support equitable access to care.
