Train Internal Teams

Training is the delivery vehicle for IPV programming fidelity. Without consistent, high-quality training, even the most well-designed protocols will erode at the point of care. This section addresses CUES training deployment, fidelity monitoring, and multi-modality delivery across the provider network and MCP staff.

Implementation Tip: Training Modality Options

A 30-minute asynchronous CUES module works well for initial onboarding volume. Case-based in-person training builds confidence for difficult disclosure scenarios. Monthly IPV case discussions in care manager supervision are highly effective for sustaining skills over time. Test two modalities and compare fidelity outcomes at six months. Here are some sample trainings:

CUES Training Requirements

Onboarding (required): All new clinical staff—including care managers, CHWs, doulas, and ECM staff—must complete CUES training before delivering IPV-related services.

Annual refresh (required): All trained staff must complete a CUES refresher training annually. Refresher content should include protocol updates, equity data, and case-based learning.

Network requirement: At least 80% of clinical staff at each contracted provider site must be CUES-trained.1 Track via LMS; report to QI committee quarterly.

Measuring Training Fidelity

  • Pre/post knowledge assessments at onboarding training (minimum passing score to be defined)
  • Staff confidence survey at 90 days post-training
  • Chart audit: 10% sample of IPV-relevant encounters for documentation completeness
  • Workflow burden balancing measure: If >20% of staff report high burden or low confidence, redesign the training before spreading further.

Internal CUES Trainer Development

Identify two to three MCP staff to serve as CUES trainers. Have them co-deliver at least one session before becoming independent trainers. Internal trainer capacity reduces dependence on external vendors and sustains program fidelity over time. Contact Futures Without Violence to review trainer development trainings.
